Professor Nigel Jones

Prof Jones is doubly qualified in neurosurgery and pain medicine. He consults at Adelaide Spine and Brain. He attended the University of Adelaide Medical School then trained in Neurosurgery in Adelaide, gaining Fellowship of the RACS in 1987. He then went to Oxford University as a Nuffield Fellow at Green College for three years, completing a DPhil for research into malignant brain tumours. He also did an Orthopaedic Spine Fellowship in Oxford and returned to Adelaide in 1991. He was the inaugural Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Adelaide and Royal Adelaide Hospital from 1992 until 2005. He also had an appointment on the Spinal Unit and maintains a strong interest in spine surgery as well as brain tumours and trigeminal neuralgia. He has been a member of the Board of Neurosurgery (6years), the Executive of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia (9 years), the Executive of the Spine Society of Australia (13 years including 2 years as President) as well as many other College, University, hospital and Australian Medical Council committees. In 2000 he was elected to Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the ANZCA and served as an Examiner for this Fellowship.
